  • beadwork chokers & bracelets

Some of these chokers and bracelets are part of the WORD series.
All the pieces in this series have words incorporated into the beadwork design. Some are acts of what I call 'positive reverse appropriation' where I take words familiar as derogatory names for Native people and bead and transform them into positive emblems to be worn with pride. Other WORD series have words written in Cree Syllabics and/or words related to the local dialects of urban cultures or areas, like Brooklyn or reservation slang.
